Commemorative plaque in memory of the concentration camp subcamp Humboldtstraße, 1944/45 a subcamp of the concentration camp Buchenwald. 520 Jewish women and girls were first deported from their home in eastern Poland to Auschwitz and then further deported to Essen for forced labor at Krupp. Six women were able to escape and were hidden by Essen citizens. The others were deported to Bergen Belsen and either murdered there or liberated by the British in April 1945.
