Moervaartmeersen is a nature reserve that mainly consists of reed land.
From this location, on top of the dike, you have a beautiful view of the hidden piece of reed land. There used to be a small marsh area here, but in 1956 the area was reclaimed. The historical landscape disappeared in this way until the Nature Association Durme bought this piece in 1992. With the financial support of the city of Lokeren, the landscape was restored to its historical value.
The result that you see here is a piece of nature to enjoy. During our passage we were welcomed by croaking frogs and chirping birds. Simply enjoyable.

The narrow strip of wet grasslands along the Meervaart are part of the Lokerse Moervaartmeersen, a nature reserve with a great diversity of landscapes. The vzw Durme is responsible for the management and is involved in nature restoration. By excavating the former agricultural lands, the meadows and marshes are given free rein here again. To the great joy of the wading birds that make a stopover there during the spring migration.
