The Ölbach flows into the Kemnader See, in its estuary area there are several bodies of water of different sizes, which are referred to as Ölbachteiche. Due to its smaller size, the Ölbachteich directly in front of the estuary is usually warmer all year round than the large adjoining Ruhr reservoir. Therefore, many amphibians and waterfowl find a home on this small body of water.

"... The Oelbach begins south of the Ümminger See at the point where the Harpener Bach and the Langendreerbach flow together. However, the term Oelbachtal also covers the entire valley of the Harpener Bach.
With the inflow of the Schattbach, it absorbs further waste water and flows past Haus Heven and finally through the Oelbachtal sewage treatment plant.
It used to feed two large tailings ponds and then flowed into the Ruhr at Haus Blumenau. Today it still feeds three polishing ponds, one of which is the << Oelbachmündungteich >>, before it flows into Lake Kemnade and thus into the Ruhr at the northeast end.
The Lottenbach, also known as the Stiepeler Bach, used to flow into the Oelbach at Blennemanns Hof, in the area of the later estuary ponds. It now flows into Lake Kemnade.
The uppermost part of the valley is protected as the Oelbachtal nature reserve and the Upper Oelbachtal nature reserve. ..."
