At the highest point in the city stands the medieval Upper Gate, formerly a bridge tower with a striking bridge over the deep moat. The gate was built around 1300 as part of the expansion of a defensive city fortification. In the 19th century it also served as a hostel for wandering guild members and journeymen. Today the marching band uses the rooms for their rehearsals.
To the right of the Nepomuk Chapel (see highlight for description) is a large baroque building, the former district court (dissolved in 1959), which was built as a prince-bishop's office in 1734 by M. Küchel. In the Middle Ages, a previous building served as an armory for the Hollfeld militia.
