The Berner Au rises west of Volksdorf and flows as a small stream through Berne and Farmsen, flowing approximately 8.5 kilometers into the Wandse River near Tonndorf.
The stream has been partially renaturalized, offering picturesque natural scenery.
The route is signposted with the yellow arrow symbols of the North German Hiking Association. A hiking map is available from the Wandsbek District Office.
