The pyramid-shaped beacon with a ball top sign is made of steel. It is used by e-Plus as a mobile phone antenna and is therefore fenced off. The beacon is located on the Kaapdüne, in the middle of the island of Spiekeroog, and is used by ships to determine their position.
Several beacons have stood at this location since 1897, and have had to be replaced time and again.

The East Beacon, a pole with a ball-topping mark, stands on the east side of Spiekeroog. There is no direct path to this small beacon. Since the south side of the island is crisscrossed by numerous ditches, the best way is to walk from the main beach on the north side of Spiekeroog along the water for about eight kilometers to the southeastern tip of the island.
Until 1983, the island also had a West Beacon on the former "Caffee Dune." This dune no longer exists.
