Already in the year 786 the Grenzweg is attested as Hoha Strazza. He came from the Werra and led over the ridge north of Philippsthal to Wünschensuhl. From the High Middle Ages, the traffic shifted into the now better accessible valleys. The old route became a forbidden path, a thieves' path. There were several landmarks along the Hohe Straße. Since the Middle Ages, there have been two sapphires at this site. These relicts are reminiscent of a crossroads close to the border, which separated two ecclesiastical territories: The Fulda court Heringen in the northwest of the hersfeldischen area of the monastery Kreuzberg in the southeast.
