The 18-meter-high Gansnest observation tower on the edge of the Upper Danube Valley was not built for this purpose. The tower was part of the upper basin of a pumped storage plant, which was built in the twenties of the last century on the plateau near the confluence of the Bära into the Danube.
Due to a lack of profitability, the pumped storage plant was discontinued in the sixties of the last century. In 1967 the Swabian Alb Association received the Gansnest Tower as a gift.

From the 18 meter high tower you have a great view in all four directions: In the north you look into the deeply cut Bäratal. In the northeast are the rocks on the edge of the Danube valley, in the east on high rocky edge of the castle Bronnen. In the south lies the town of Fridingen and in the west the romantic Danube valley with the lying in the valley districts of Mühlheim. In the northwest you can easily see the Lviv at its lookout tower.
