The chapel is actually a war memorial.
As early as August 1918, before the end of the war, the construction of a war memorial was discussed for the first time in Fridingen. On December 10, 1918, the local council decided to build a war memorial. The location of the system was discussed very hard. Pastor Karl Maier was of the opinion that “Fridingen has enough chapels”, that the new war memorial should be sensibly integrated somewhere. He wanted to build it in the church. If, however, it had to be a new building, as the city administration wanted, he pleaded for the exposed space above the city, in the direction of “Härle” below the “Vogelsang” and wanted the monument to be designed like a chapel.
