Averbode Forest and Heath

Averbode Bos & Heide is located around the abbey of Averbode. It is the transition from the Kempen to the Hageland. Extensive forests alternate with fens, marshes, heathland and heathland with scanty grasslands. Beautiful nature to take a walk.

Here the nature workers have done a fantastic job, the heathland that has arisen here is beautiful! The pools are also gems. Where 30 years ago everything was still sufficient here with monotonous pine forests, these beautiful natural areas have now arisen. This area is extremely expensive, but also vulnerable!

Freely accessible on the hiking trails all year round. In rainy weather and in winter, sturdy shoes or boots are necessary. Strollers can go in some lanes, but on the forest paths it becomes difficult. Dogs are welcome, but always on a leash of course. The paved avenues are accessible to wheelchair users. There are also specific trails for horse riders and mountain bikers.

It is very important that everyone stays on the paths specifically designated for them, so that others are not disturbed. It is not allowed to leave the paths, swim in the fens or play with the dog, nor to have a barbecue.
