The first chapel, which was first documented here in 1308, was already dedicated to St. George, which is why today's version is still called St. George's Chapel. It was destroyed in the Peasants' War, soon after it was a new building. 1668 was a third edition, the holy George but remained the patron saint. This version has been preserved until today.

This chapel, surrounded by greenery, offers beautiful views. Worth seeing is the Way of the Cross, which leads from the south to Senftenberg. At the end of April a Georgiritt (pilgrimage on horseback) takes place to the chapel.

Every year around St. George's Day (April 23rd), riders and horse lovers take their animals to the picturesque Senftenberg chapel high above Gunzendorf. The horse pilgrimage to St. George's Chapel has existed since 1618. Originally it was riders, soldiers and farmers who gave their riding and draft animals their blessings, but today the procession is accompanied by members of the surrounding riding stables.
