Around 1486 the simple pilgrimage chapel was expanded into a church with a steeple. The year is on the keystone of the ribbed vault in the choir room. The mighty church tower with the massive quadrangular substructure, on which an octagonal storey is placed, is striking.

The Church of St. Anthony in Engelsbrand was built in 1486 on the site of a previously existing pilgrimage chapel. In 1863, the ancient St. Anthony's Chapel and the old nave were demolished, and a new nave was built to its current dimensions.

Period from the founding of the Waldhufendorf until 1404 Engelsbrand (as well as Grunbach, Salmbach, Kapfenhardt, Waldrennach and Langenbrand) belongs to the parish of Brötzingen. Mass, baptisms and funerals take place in Brötzingen. During this period, chapels are built in Engelsbrand, Grunbach and Langenbrand, and the St. Antonius pilgrimage chapel is built in Engelsbrand (on the site of today's sacristy).
1404 The parishes of Engelsbrand, Grunbach, Salmbach, Kapfenhardt and Waldrennach are separated from Brötzingen. A separate parish is formed with Langenbrand as its center. In accordance with previous practice, mass, baptisms and funerals now take place in Langenbrand.
1486 (This year is on the keystone of the cross-ribbed vault in the choir of our church) The chapel was expanded to become a church with a church tower and a nave. The church is significantly smaller than ours today. It is not known to what extent masses are held in this church. However, from the parish's petitions to the church authorities in the 19th century, it is clear that the parish feels poorly served in terms of worship and pastoral care. From 1487 onwards, the dead are probably buried in the local "churchyard". Engelsbrand still belongs to the Langenbrand parish.
