This is the first of a series of sculptures along the River Eden, the collection titled Eden Benchmarks. There are ten in total, from the source here to where it flows into the Solway Firth near Carlisle.

'Water Cut' by Mary Bourne stands along the Lady Anne Clifford's Way and the space between the two large Salterwath Limestone pillars shows the meandering river, giving the viewer a window down into the river valley below.

One of 10 sculptures commissioned and placed along the Vale of Eden. Created by 10 different artists with the brief to create works that form seats and work in cohesion with the river. This sculpture is made of two different pieces of local limestone.
