Aye Gill Pike and Church of St John the Evangelist loop from Dent - (Hike No. 83) Set off time: - 7:55 - 11:55 AM Hike: 23 KM BPM 142 Elevation 680 m Weather / humidity Average pace 5.8 KM/PH Fastest KM 6:53 Slowest KM 13:28 Overall time 3:58:27 Calories burned 2400 Train time: 6:33 - 7:55 AM Train back: 12:12 - 1:19 PM (4hrs 15 min to complete it 5.38 KM/PH to get back on time for the train) It started with a quick Km down the familiar old coal road then a steady climb all the way to aye gill pike, it was boggy, rainy and misty with side winds so I did what I do best and powered through the first leg as fast as possible as soon as the trig point was reached I pounced down all the way to the road which was roughly around 5KM making great time and in my head I knew I’d be making the train back as opposed to getting the 3PM one it wasn’t viable in my head anyways. The bulk of the route done and dusted I had to go knee deep along the stepping stone section as that was the route intended to be taken at least it cleaned the mud of my shoes and somewhat my pants which are looking frightful as off now. I met fellow hikers on the path engaged in small talk and they seemed to think I had just come little did they know I was already 10 miles in, met a farmer and expressed my love for the dales and the route I’d taken he seemed taken aback by when I told him I ran a fair bit so I thought I’d add I’m a hiker and learning cyclist too, it was more to familiarise myself with the many tasks I’ve undertaken and truly how far I’ve come also put in I’d put in over 350 miles up and down this Trainline! One last incline along coal road and I was here 15 minutes before my train arrived, simply superb work and sets me up nicely for my challenge next week. A nice warm up to the station with 6.5 K ran and that’s another one for the books.

Morning trail half marathon 🏃

Set off time: 5:56 - 7:59 AM KM: 21.10 BPM 152 Elevation 142 m Weather / humidity 3, 86% Average pace 5:50 Fastest KM 5:18 Slowest KM 6:10 Overall time: 2:03:13 Calories burned 1400 Had the place all to myself, thought I’d try a circle route and consistently hit laps whilst having some considerably less elevation that I’ve done on all my Half marathons just to analyse a baseline time, 10 min quicker than my last one in December but that did have 500 m of elevation. However I’ll take the win I’ve done a lot this month and just trying to be comfortable running a long distance last k kind of got to me was feeling more tired than I’d expect, also learning how to fuel whilst running so had three dates some water some lucozade and an orange. Kind of fun eating taking my mind off what am actually doing so another achievement to be proud of I’m only racing myself no need to get caught up with anyone but me, lovely morning to run.

Gearstones Farm – Cam High Road loop from Ribblehead (Hike 82)

Set off time: - 7:45 - 11:15 AM Hike: 22.12 KM BPM 124 Elevation 732 m Weather / humidity Average pace 6.3 KM/PH Fastest KM 5:27 Slowest KM 19:41 Overall time 3:30:16 Calories burned 1660 Train time: 6:33 - 7:45 AM Train back: 12:21 - 1:19 PM (have to run/jog 5KM to make that train time) A great hike a fair bit of running done, first 3KM then a further 2 KM later and then to finish of down the route I’m familiar with down Whernside adding a further 2KM the route was spectacular all the way throughout and for 19 KM I didn’t see one soul on my route it looked like one that not many would walk through and I made the most of it. It started with hail and wind and lightened up as I got in to cowgil where I met a splendid old man who was intrigued as to what route I was taking he seemed a little concerned but I reassured him the Yorkshire dales is now like a second home and it would be very unlikely I’d get lost. The views were illustrious expanding to dent and sedhburg and I could even see a few peaks via the Lake District from blea more. I loved every part of it as hard as it feels at times and reminds me I’ve ran around these peaks three times I can’t wait for another attempt down here to get my marathon in for the year it’s the best place for it. Hike 82 in the books and a nice run to warmup the legs beforehand can’t complain at all! Happy hunting
