Due to its exposed location, it is especially visible from the south and therefore alone one of the landmarks of the city. It is inscribed in the list of monuments historiques. The Cathedral, dedicated to the saints Nazarius and Celsus, stands on a site that was once a temple to the Romans, dedicated to Augustus and his wife Livia. In the 8th century, a Christian building is mentioned here, later a Romanesque church stood here, which was destroyed during the Albigensian Crusade during the massacre of Béziers on 22 July 1209 by a fire. The reconstruction started in the middle of the 13th century and since then partly includes an old cemetery due to the size of the building.
