In the 8th century, a Christian building is mentioned here, later a Romanesque church stood here, which was destroyed during the Albigensian Crusade during the massacre of Béziers on 22 July 1209 by a fire. The reconstruction started in the middle of the 13th century and since then partly includes an old cemetery due to the size of the building.
