"...Bilstein Castle is a spur castle on a foothill of the adjacent Rosenberg. This falls steeply on three sides, so that the defenses of the castle had to be aligned to the north-east of the mountain alone.
The appearance of the castle is therefore dominated by the two round towers: the chapel tower and the Hohnekamp tower. The towers are connected by a tunnel running under the courtyard. The wing in the southeast, on the other hand, was built in 1978 to expand the youth hostel. On the valley side in front of the central building is a balcony on which a lime tree grows, which can be seen from afar. Today, a brick bridge connects the main bailey and the outer bailey over the partly filled-up, about 15 m wide moat. ..."
