The old cemetery in Waldeck has a quiet and special atmosphere. The old, partly mossy gravestones are really interesting if you look at them closely. There is a remarkable story that has to do with the plague epidemic:
In 1599, the then Elector gave the people of Waldeck permission to bury a plague victim there directly and not have to take him to Kastl - like the dead before.

The old cemetery of Waldeck is located at the foot of the Schlossberg directly on the way to the castle ruins. Interesting gravestones and relics from bygone times that still tell about the cemetery from 1599 - 1913 some of them are still well preserved. It is worth making a detour to visit the cemetery from that time.

Only the elders know the Old Cemetery at the foot of the Schlossberg. It was a long way to the market community's own resting place. A look at the notes of the home historian Anton Reger and the former pastor Johann Baptist Pausch helps. Our photo shows the old cemetery in the present condition with the remaining tombstones. In 1599, the then Elector gave the Waldeckers permission to bury a plague victim there directly and not have to bring him to Kastl - like the dead before.
