The seven stone flags were created by artist Tom Müllers and are intended to greet travelers at the end of the causeway. There are seven flags representing the seven kings of the island.

The 7 flags greet locals as well as holidaymakers coming from Husum directly after crossing the dam, the number 7 also has a greater meaning on Nordstrand, among other things the island consists of 7 Kögen

The work of art “7 Flags for Nordstrand” is located on the Nordstrander Damm and was created in 2007 by the sculptor Tom Müllers. It consists of seven flags carved from various rocks such as granite, gneiss, limestone and sandstone and attached to around five-meter-high larch wood masts. These flags represent the seven polders of Nordstrand, which were reclaimed from the sea by embankment.

The polders were created after the devastating storm surge of 1634 to reclaim land and protect themselves from further storm surges. The seven flags symbolize the resilience and will to live of the Nordstrand population, who always defy the natural forces of the North Sea.

The art installation exudes great symbolic power by showing the contrasts between the lightness and the heaviness of the material used. While the stone flags symbolize a constant and eternal presence, the wooden masts react flexibly to the wind without breaking.
