History to touchThe massive natural stone walls at the beer garden and inside the restaurant are literally history to touch. The listed building belongs to one of the first land defense towers that surrounded Hannover from 1392. In the years 1650-1652, the Wartturm was rebuilt into a windmill, which ceased operations in 1927. Incidentally, there was already a mountain inn next to the former mill: the Hanoverian industrialist Johann Egestorff had it built in 1825 by the city architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves.
In 1878, the economy had to give way to the imposing water tank, which was then to supply the city with drinking water from the Ricklinger Masch. On the flat roof of the nearly ten-meter-high building in the style of a medieval fortress (which borders directly on the beer garden), the Volkssternwarte Hannover, founded in 1968, invites you every Thursday from 8 pm to 10 pm for public sky observation.

Nice beer garden, good destination for a trip with people, not without 'reason' to move out of the house! 😂
