A smaller castle chapel was probably built on the site of the current church by the Counts of Calw-Löwenstein. The church was probably already standing when Löwenstein was granted town rights in 1287.

When the building suffered major damage due to its age, a decision had to be made to build a new one. This new building was built by the Counts of Löwenstein between 1760 and 1763. It was inaugurated in February 1763.

Due to the carelessness of a slate roofer, the church tower burned down 20 years later. As the church interior was also damaged, services were held in the count's castle next door for three years. The organ, which had been badly damaged, was also replaced in 1833. (Source: kirche-loewenstein.de)
