The sculpture Fuglen (The Bird) is made by the sculptor Erik Heide (born 1934). It is cast from iron and measures 90 cm in height and is approx. 1 m wide - The "golden apple" in the bird's beak is cast in brass. The fountain is made of reddish Vånga granite from Scania.

The unveiling took place on July 13, 1973.

The "bird with the golden apple in its beak" in Aarhus is the Fugl med guldæble i næbbet - also called Fuglebrønden. The bird is made of cast iron, the "golden apple" in its beak of brass, and the fountain/base of red Vånga granite from Sweden. It was unveiled on July 13, 1973, and today stands at the intersection of Søndergade / Sønder Allé in the pedestrian zone (Strøget) of Aarhus - originally it stood a little further down the street in front of the Salling department store.
