Small historical cemetery right next to the Chorin monastery.

Lots of district foresters, wardens and even a "super switch warden" (!) are dug here.

In the north, directly adjacent to the monastery is the monastery cemetery, which was already in the same location when the monastery was used by the Cistercian monks from 1273 to 1542. Along with the Eberswalde forest cemetery, this cemetery is one of the most important collections of forest burial sites in Germany.
The architect Max Taut also lies in the monastery cemetery. Like his older brother Bruno, he married a daughter of the innkeeper Gustav Ludwig Wollgast, who ran the Alte Klosterschänke. In Chorin, the two brothers were involved in the renovation of the monastery at a young age through the “Chorin Circle”.
In 2021, it seemed to become urgently necessary to secure not only the grave of the Taut-Wollgast family but the entire cemetery. The inappropriate and out-of-shape design of the family grave required a garden reconstruction, and the grave, designed by Max Taut himself, urgently needed to be renovated. The stability of almost all gravestones and grave surrounds in the cemetery was no longer guaranteed. The German Foundation for Monument Protection was able to help preserve Max Taut's grave and the cemetery as a whole.

The monastery cemetery, located immediately north of the monastery church, is one of the most important collections of forestry burial grounds in Germany and has served as a burial site since 1281. It contains approximately 50 graves, more than half of which belong to foresters, and is also the final resting place of notables such as the architect Max Taut, who was buried there in 1967.
