After grinding grain into flour for several centuries in the Pfeiffer mill Buchfart, the mill fell from 1968 into a slumber.
About 40 years later, enthusiasts set to work to restore this built witness of ancient craftsmanship. They rehabilitated the buildings, renewed the mill technology (power generator, new gearbox) and set up a meeting or training center for the old miller trade. In the picturesque Ilm Valley between Bad Berka and Mellingen is the small town of Buchfart with its historic water mill that is still working.
The Buchfart mill also has a meeting center for historic milling, a farm shop with mill products and baked goods and a special brewery.
The middle Ilm valley shows itself here from its most beautiful side.
The Ilm meanders leisurely through this narrow valley with its not very high but steep, wooded slopes.
