The 26 meter high Schelmenturm is Monheim's landmark. It was built around 1425 and was the eastern city gate of the former fortifications of the Counts of Berg. In the 16th and 17th centuries it served as a city prison. The tower was renovated in 1972 and has since been used as a cultural meeting place. Concerts are played and works of art are exhibited in the Schelmenturm, the registry office also conducts weddings here.
