The Silbersand mine in the Nettetal, the remains of which can be seen opposite, was exploited from the 16th century until it was closed in 1914 to extract lead, zinc, copper and silver. The stones were transported by horse to Andernach and from there by ship to the Ruhrhütten (information board)
