Historic lock on the connecting canal

Historic lock with swing bridge in the connecting canal. What is special about this lock is that it has four pairs of gates instead of the usual two. This serves to compensate for the changing water levels between the Ems-Vechte Canal and the Vechte.

Here you are very close to the water town of Nordhorn. River and canals run through the city and offer a romantic picture.
Especially when the happy people are out and about in the boats and enjoy the trip on the water when the weather is nice.

The bike path along the NOH-Almelo Canal is a really nice piece. The historic lock worth seeing. How small were the ships back then ?! No longer comparable with today's inland freighters.
