The memorial consists of Porta sandstone, which was quarried from a tunnel in Wittekindsberg. The last 100 years have left their mark on the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument and extensive restoration has become necessary. Many private individuals have campaigned for the preservation of the monument both morally and financially, as the founding of the Association for the Promotion of the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument e.V. shows, and the restoration is gradually being carried out.
