Plombières Mining Site Nature Reserve

The old mining site ('Site Calaminaire') in Plombières (Blieberg) has since been transformed into a European protected nature reserve. This old mining area is home to a nature reserve characterized by the presence of heavy metals or calamine grass. These are home to a very special fauna and flora related to the presence of zinc or other heavy metals in the soil. Their distribution area in Europe is very limited, so that some of these species do not occur elsewhere.
