Burg was built from 1276 to 1288 by "Heinrich von Westerburg" as a stronghold against Runkel Castle, which was owned by a cousin at the time, due to inheritance and ownership disputes. Because of this function they and the surrounding settlement got their name: "a corner to the detriment of Runkel Castle". However, Runkel Castle was not conquered. (Wikipedia)
