In the Viking Age, Danes, Friesians, Saxons and Slavs met here in the border region between Scandinavia and Central Europe. The Danes began to expand the Danewerk as a southern border fortification. The Osterwall runs over a length of 3.5 kilometers via Kochendorf to the Windebyer Noor.

50 m west of here you can see a small piece of wall in the woods to the right of the path; further on to Kochendorf it looks like a small bend. It stretches a total of 4 km from Windebyer Noor to the swampy lowlands of the Osterbek.

In individual sections it has been preserved west of Kochendorf up to a height of 4 m.
