The Ruhr Acropolis was created between 1993 and 1995 as part of the art project Binnen-Hafen-Zeit. Heide Weidele placed the sculpture made of sheet pile wall elements, each 9 m high, at the former pier head of the shipping island between Vincke Canal and Kaiserhafen. The Kaiserhafen has now been shut down and filled in.

Hiking
Based on the model of an ancient pillared temple, the artist - as part of the art project Binnen-Hafen-Zeit - designed four columns made of sheet pile wall elements nine meters high to form the 'Ruhr Acropolis', the base of which is the pier head. The columns with a diameter of 1.37 m also represent dolphins where ships moor. Two are painted ultramaretim, one white and one white-orange striped.
