A famously challenging Peak District descent. Extremely spicy when wet, I'd give it 4 chillies. The bad news is that it's ALWAYS wet haha. It's fairly steep in places, wide for the most part and narrow in others. Scattered with a mixture of loose and embedded rock. In the wider parts of the trail line choice is pretty fun and challenging with the wide variety of choice. Very good fun, scream if you want to go faster kind of descent.

Loose rocks to begin with that turn into large embedded rock which is much easier to hike-a-bike up. When riding up Cavedale I couldn't help but think what a fantastic time I would have descending down this trail, so I recommend you do that. Alternatively a great opportunity to tackle a challenging climb and practice your hike-a-bike skills. Hats off to those that can complete this climb with no dabs! Once you get through the rocks the trail mellows out to wide grassy bridleway with some smaller embedded rock. Much more manageable and rideable.
Wow, Cave Dale is a tough one as the rocks are big and chunky, they move everywhere, they are limestone and slick in the wet, its steep in sections and its often rammed with walkers. But you can find your level. Broken into three sections the top part is the steepest roughest and narrowest. The middle part is more easily rideable but is still tough. You then go through a very narrow pinch point before it magically opens out to reveal a really wide green valley with a rocky strip in the centre. You can ride up the sides a little for a smoother ride and avoid any walkers. There are a couple of opportunities for jumps as you head towards the bottom, great fun. At the end it pinches you in agan on looser stones and so you need to be aware of this.....stop for the gate! Through here and as if exiting a magical kingdom you are ejected into the centre of Castleton. Pure magic. (unless you went in a bit ambitious at the top, in which case you might have an even more magical view of the valley.....from an air ambulance)
