Walking along this road reminds you just how fickle human construction is in comparison to the strength of Mother Nature.
Mam Tor is often called 'the Shivering Mountain' as its loose shale often causes landslides. After a series of intense landslides in 1912, 1933, 1946, 1952 and 1966; in 1979 a particularly bad slip caused the troubled Mam Tor road to close permanently.

Stunning views as you walk up this collapsed road. Not even a 4 by 4 would get up here after the landslips suffered.

I remember the night it collapsed had only driven across it a few hours previously.

Also known as "Broken Road" - the local council decided to abandon the upkeep of the A625 road following regular landslips.
