In 2013, the “Meuschauer Mühle” hydroelectric power plant with an output of 1.9 GWh was commissioned by a private contractor on the Mühleninsel. The system generates around 3 million kWh of electricity annually, which is fed into the public power grid. The hydroelectric power plant thus covers the electricity requirements of around 1,000 households. In addition, the waste heat from the turbine is used to heat the adjoining residential and commercial spaces. In total, the operation of the hydroelectric power plant saves around 3,000 t of CO2 per year.
