The Rousse Tower is the eleventh of an original 15 loop-holed towers built in Guernsey in the 18th century to protect against a French invasion during the American Revolutionary War against the English. The French had sided with the Americans in this war. If you walk along the coastline starting from the Rousse Tower, you will also see the other towers of the same design.
