Northwest of the palace is the public palace park flanked by the Werra. In addition to the trees and plants, there is a considerable remainder of the historic city wall and a round tower to discover. The small watchtower with its curved hood is what is left of the former palace gardens. The pleasure garden was laid out in 1582 under Landgrave Wilhelm IV.
