Kijfhoek is a hamlet, former craftsmanship and former municipality in the municipality of Zwijndrecht near the Kijfhoek shunting yard, approximately between Heerjansdam and Zwijndrecht.
The village has always remained small throughout the ages. In 1515 it had six houses and a monastery. It was this monastery that gave the village meaning. The monastery of Eemsteijn, located near Munnikensteeg, was inaugurated in 1435 and was a kind of regional center for almost a century and a half; it was destroyed in 1572 by a Geuzenvendel. Nothing has survived of the monastery.Kijfhoek was merged into the municipality of Groote Lindt on August 19, 1857, which was merged into the municipality of Zwijndrecht in 1881.In 1926 the Devel near Kijfhoek was drained. Due to a change in the system of drainage of the polders, the Devel lost its function in this area. The church was restored in 1927, but due to a lack of money, partly machine stones were used; coarse planks replaced the roof decking. The church has been restored and expertly restored since 1992.
