On August 16, 2021, Gorinchem was declared the most beautiful fortified city in the Netherlands by the ANWB.
“Gorinchem is beautifully situated at the place where the Linge flows into the Merwede. The ramparts are beautifully preserved: a green ribbon around the city with knots of chestnuts and plane trees to stroll under and with a view of the surrounding areas, the river and the many defenses. That combination of a view of the river, a ring of greenery and a lively city center makes Gorinchem a tasty chocolate," said the jury.

Hiking
We prefer to walk rounds where part goes through nature and part through a fortified town. That is a nice mix and as a fortified town Gorinchem is our favorite. Great history, nice streets, cozy terraces. Will definitely go again.
