A chapel dedicated to Our Lady, founded in 1435 by Adriaen Van Marselaer, used to be on the site of the Sint-Amanduskerk. The year 1732 on the church refers to the beginning of Opdorp as an independent parish.

Church located on the Dries of the green picturesque village square. Built in the 15th century as a chapel. Now a full-fledged place of worship with class.

A chapel dedicated to Our Lady used to stand on the site of the choir of the Sint-Amandus church. In the drawing Sanderus made of the castle of the Van Marselaer gentlemen, we see the chapel in the background. It was founded as an auxiliary church of the Malderen parish in 1435 by Adriaen Van Marselaer, lord of Opdorp and married to Mathilde Van Assche. On that drawing (see description of the castle) the chapel was represented as being relatively large; perhaps a little shorter than the Boskapel in Buggenhout, but just as high and with a pointed turret in the middle. Around 1600 it was rebuilt in stone by the Van Marselaer family. When Opdorp became an independent parish in 1732, the chapel was converted into a parish church with a deep choir, a single nave with four windows on both sides and a square tower with a pear-shaped spire.
