This wonderfully charming and fertile village is not only one of the most beautiful places in the West Bank, it is also one of the most vivacious. In 2012, the town of Battir won a legal battle to build a wall separating Israel. The wall could not be built as it would have cut through ancient terraced gardens and would have completely cut off villagers from their land, as well as the only school. The brave village is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its terraced cultivation and irrigation canals, and fights the occupation peacefully using its cultural and natural heritage.
