The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also known as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, is located in the Old City of Jerusalem and is also known as the Church of the Resurrection (Anastasis) by Orthodox Christians. According to tradition, Jesus was crucified here and his tomb is in the immediate vicinity. The church is the seat of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Catholic Archpriest of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. Like the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the Mount of Olives and the Mount of Beatitudes, it is of great importance to religious Christians.

Station XI is the place where the cross of Jesus was supposed to have stood. In fact, the site of a cross was found at this point during excavations. It is considered the most important sacred site of Latin Christians. "They pierced my hands and feet and counted all my bones." (John 19:17); Station XII stands on the rock where the crosses of the three executed ones stood. The Greek altar recalls the pain of Mary in the face of her child's agony. "Jesus cried aloud: My God, why did you leave me?" Jesus cried out loud again, then gave up his spirit. "(John 27 46-50) Station XIII is the stone of the anointing, reminding of the crucifixion of Christ and the embalming of the corpse." Joseph of Arimathea, member of the High councils and a disciple of Jesus went to Pontius Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus and he took him from the cross "(Luke 23:53).

"First impressions of this holiest site in Christianity will disappoint many a pilgrim who expects a basilica or cathedral, such as is usual for major pilgrimage sites in Europe. It is the history of the building that explains why we see a squat church hidden between houses , whose internal structure is initially perceived as confusing and inharmonious and only after closer inspection does the organic connection between many components become apparent.(...) The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is used by several Christian denominations... Even if the interaction... is not always without it problems, it shows the great importance of this place: to be close to the center of our creed, the death and resurrection of Jesus."
