The weathered rock of the Bieley is a group of rocks from the Devonian period (419.2–358.9 million years ago) and is located on a hill some 550 meters above sea level. The rock formation is made of quartzite and rises about 50 meters high. The view from the top is breathtakingly beautiful.

The most beautiful viewpoint in the Eierbachtal, especially in the direction of Schwalm. No other place on the Eierbach offers this uniquely wonderful panoramic view. Ideal for a souvenir photo. The Bieley can be easily reached via hiking trails from Wahlerscheid or Gut Heistert (*also free parking lot). But the most beautiful route leads from Kalterherberg (Gut Heistert) over nature trails, past a magnificent beaver dam, to Bieley. I recommend this hiking trail without reservation. Important (!): The Bieley is located in/on the edge of the Belgian military training area. Information boards regarding closures are set up at the entry points of the hiking trails. So before you plan a hike to Bieley, you should find out when access is permitted either at butgenbach.be or by calling the municipality of Bütgenbach. It is expected that in 2022 there will only be occasional exercises on weekends (Sat./Sun.). From the Bieley, a hiking trail leads further towards the hiking highlights Polenkreuz, Cross of an Unknown Man and Erkelenzer Cross (Croix Mathias) or Lutzevenn. This would be another wonderful addition to a hike to Bieley. Enthusiasm factor guaranteed, especially when the weather is nice!

This striking slate rock is often called the "Matterhorn from Perlenbachtal" because of its shape. A gallows is said to have stood on the Bieley until the French Revolution. The so-called "pearl trespassers" were hanged on this gallows. It is possible that the gallows here or on the gallows hill were only there as a deterrent and the sentences were carried out elsewhere. What is certain, however, is that pearl fishing was a privilege of the sovereign and pearl poaching was punished with death.
