Stadtkrone Pavilion in Bürgerpark Maria Lindenhof

" 2021 - The Bürgerpark Maria Lindenhof is a place of encounter, local recreation, tranquility and inspiration - you can now experience all of this in the Stadtkrone building, which is now accessible to all citizens.
The official opening of the building and the handover to the residents of Dorsten will take place at a later date due to the corona pandemic - it is planned in the course of the general opening of the Bürgerpark in late summer.
In the process of redesigning and upgrading the Maria Lindenhof public park as part of the “We make MITte” urban renewal program, all citizens were invited to get to grips with this special area across the Lippe and Canal. The aim was to bring in a wide variety of talents and to stimulate new planning perspectives. The curator Marion Taube gave this participatory process the name Stadtkrone and developed a concept for it in 2017 and 2018.
The Stadtkrone structure, which was built on a plateau at the western tip of the amusement park, serves as a symbol of change and as a place for participation in the redesign of the Bürgerpark. To this end, the city of Dorsten and Marion Taube, who came up with the idea, organized an artist and landscape architect competition. The winner was the design by the office "Het Observatorium" from Rotterdam. Mila Ellee, who accompanied the process from the competition to completion as the city planner of the city of Dorsten, speaks of a "symbiosis of landscape structure and art object that crowns the entire redesign of the Maria Lindenhof public park". The pavilion is recognized from a distance as a harmoniously shaped bowl that juts out over the ridges of the hill yet appears light. The lower half of the open construction is covered. Once you have climbed up, you will notice an opening in the middle of the roof when entering the pavilion. Through these, the collected rainwater falls vertically onto a natural stone, where it is held for a moment and then channeled into the park via two channels. Symbolic for lip and canal.
