The Beautification Association (since 1863 in municipal administration) is under the direction of the artist and educator Plato Ahrens, the businessman Ferdinand Nonne, the economics commissioner Oswald Schmidt and the rentier Heinrich Scheller.
In the years that followed, the association did considerable work for the city: planting promenades (Krautberg, Stadtberg, Wallrabser Holz to Stressenhäuser border, Stadtwald, Heiliger Grund, etc.), observation tower on Stadtberg (1882), observation temple on Krautberg (1891), Ruin "Lug ins Land", facilities at the Römersbach, Nonnesruh in Wallrabs.

It begins in Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony and runs along the Werra river through northeastern Hesse and western Thuringia to Masserberg.
The 128-kilometer-long section from Hann. Münden to Nentershausen with the special trail sign “X5 H” is certified as a quality hiking trail.
