A church in Schönwald was first mentioned in 1417. The Reformation arrived in 1528. According to Brix and Lippert, the Knoll family of sculptors was assigned the pulpit around 1745 and the high altar in 1744/45. The organ case also came from this time. There has been a new organ since 1971. Under the architect Johannes Will, the church was extensively rebuilt and expanded in 1909. The core of the choir tower is from the 13th century. During construction work in 1977, four epitaphs from the 17th century were found. The church is a listed building.Source and further information

The church was probably built at the end of the 14th century. Other sources assume it was built in 1405. The Reformation was introduced in Schönwald as early as 1528 and the original Marienkirche became Protestant. Since then it has grown with the town, has been expanded, changed and redesigned in its current form in 1909. For more than 600 years, people have been meeting in this church, celebrating services together, being baptized, confirmed and married, and for many centuries they have also been buried around the church.
