A missing town center in the Upper Franconian porcelain town was the starting point for the development of a project that had an impact on life in the small town of Schönwald far beyond the structural measures.

A traffic-dominated urban area around the Schönwald town hall could be converted into a market place after a little-used street layout was abandoned. The Schönwald population was closely involved throughout the planning process, so that wishes and suggestions could be collected for all generations and integrated into the project. With the completion of the market square with an adjacent bakery building and an attractive children's playground, the new town center was put into operation in 2010.
