The Old Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1304. It was built by the Lords of Münchingen as a moated castle and was surrounded by a water-filled moat.
The New Palace was built between 1733 and 1735 by Baron August Friedrich von Harling, a native of Lüneburg who married into the Munich aristocratic family. In 1842, the wealthy farmer Jakob Schmalzried acquired the entire palace complex from Franz Karl von Harling, the grandson of August Friedrich von Harling.

Münchingen Castle is divided into two parts: a new and an old castle and was built on the site of a castle mentioned in 1304. Parts of the old castle probably still consist of parts of the castle. The fruit box and stables were built in 1619.
The baroque building was erected around 1735 by the barons von Hartling, who bought the castle from the lords of Münchingen in 1733. It stands on the ruins of the main castle building.
The buildings were extensively renovated and repaired in the 1970s and 80s. The last renovation took place in 2019/2020.
Since the property is privately owned, it is not open to the public.
