The deserted village of Pomezná (Markhausen) is located in the Rathsam nature reserve, which lies at the confluence of the Eger/Ohře and Röslau/Reslava rivers. The remains of a gate tower from the Markhausen fortress, which was destroyed in 1462, are still standing here. This is referred to as the "Frankenturm" or "Box". After the destruction of the village, the tower was left to decay. Remains of the walls of two storeys and the barrel vault of the cellar have been preserved from the square building with a basement, eight meters long.

The Röslau flows into the Eger on the eastern edge of the Fichtelgebirge near Hohenberg an der Eger. The river then crosses the Czech border. The Eger can meander here in a wide valley. A large area on both sides of the border has been placed under protection and designated as a nature reserve. On the Czech side there used to be the village of Rathsam, which was inhabited by Germans. When the area became a restricted area after the Second World War, the border troops destroyed the place. The name Rathsam was adopted for the nature reserve. The wetland is of great importance for bird migration in spring and autumn as a resting place and for feeding.

The NSG is a beautiful hiking area. There are beautiful paths and interesting highlights along the Eger.
