Crotti Brusio
Walking through the municipality of Brusio, from Miralago to Campocologno, on the valley floor and on the slopes of the mountain we come across stone buildings with a particular shape typical of the area. They are the crotti, small buildings of uncertain origin, built centuries ago.
They were made both in cool and shaded areas, as they were used in particular to preserve fresh products, and in dry and open areas, as they were sometimes used as a kitchen or even as a temporary home during the summer season.
In some areas we find comfortable and large specimens, spread over two floors.

Cold air flows down from many of the cliffs in Brusio. This was exploited until the 20th century and small round buildings made of dry stone called "crotti" or "scélé" were built in which milk and cheese were stored. Some of these crotti are closed, so they still seem to be used for storage.

The Crotti (called “Crot” in Brusio, “Scelé” in Poschiavo) are round, igloo-shaped stone buildings which in the past were used to store food at cool, constant temperatures or, more rarely, as a kitchen or temporary accommodation.
