You can go on a Franconian safari in the beautiful Aurach Valley: water buffalo, wild horses and Aurach oxen - a captive breed of the aurochs - graze on the picturesque pastures.

In the Aurach Valley between Walsdorf and Lisberg, new approaches to landscape conservation have been explored for a number of years. In 2006, a grazing project called “Aurochs” started between Walsdorf and Zettelsdorf with eight heck cattle, a reverse breed of the aurochs. In the meantime the herd has grown to a considerable number. In 2011, water buffalo and Koniks were added to the floodplain between Kolmsdorf and Feigendorf. The robust herbivores are kept outside all year round and only need to be fed in real emergencies such as prolonged snow cover or flooding. Prerequisites for year-round grazing are sufficiently large pasture areas, a low density of animals and close interlocking between open land, bushes and groups of trees

Now in the spring, the animals can be seen very well because it is not that hot yet, always nice to look at and observe.
